Ernie, Good question for Grumpy. I have the same one. Seems they have a shop just a few miles from me. I too was wondering what/how he ordered it.

I just bought a 35 pound box of split Sitka bracewood from Alaska Specialty Woods (http://www.alaskawoods.com/products.php ... =Bracewood). It is what it says it is. The grain is straight and the split makes it easy to cut out braces. I don't expect to have any problems getting good braces for quite a while now. The price per board foot was about the same as from Aircraft Spruce and Alaska Specialty actually had the wood. I had been waiting for several months for Aircraft Spruce to get wood back in stock. The Aircraft Spruce wood is not sawn along split lines, so you have to retrieve your braces from within the boards. I like the split stuff. It's not in the lower 48, so you have to allow time for the post office to get it to you..

I don't use sitka, but know of a lot of folks who get(or used to get) their sitka bracewood from Aircraft Spruce, so I added it to the discussion...

I used the Sitka from Aircraft Spruce but by the time you split the boards up the yield can be pretty low. It is nice wood but I prefer working off of split billets. I don't use Sitka anymore, I use red spruce - nothing wrong with Sitka as far as I know, red spruce grows around here.
